Do you remember those WWJD bracelets and bumper stickers that were popular a few years ago? I do try to consider in my life what Jesus would do, because I’m a Christian and that’s important to me. But I’m fairly certain Jesus never tried to lose weight.
I could consider WWCD, but I’ve never been a big rule follower, so the awesome rules Cheryl’s setting for herself probably would not work as well for me (but you go girl!) So instead, I’ve been thinking WWSCD — What Would a Skinny Chick Do?
Last year my hubby and I were having breakfast at the Pancake Pantry in Nashville. (It’s awesome, if you’ve never been there, just get ready for a long line!) We totally porked out! I had an omelet, bacon, grits, biscuits with gravy, chocolate milk, and a few bites of Rich’s country ham. As I was happily shoveling it in, I glanced next to us and saw these two skinny chicks splitting an egg white omelet. It was quite an eye-opener. I realized immediately that my weight depended on everyday choices I make. Do I go for the Big Mama Breakfast and just accept that I’m going to be a tad overweight, or do rein myself in and order a meal that could sustain a 130-pound woman?
While it didn’t change my habits then, I clearly remember how disgusted I felt with myself at the time. So for the past week, whenever I’m ready to order or prepare a meal, I think to myself, “What would a skinny chick do?” If a skinny chick wouldn’t get the chicken fried steak with gravy and mashed potatoes, then neither will I.
Losing weight is all about making smart choices. A side salad vs. french fries. Walking up the stairs vs. taking the elevator. Grabbing a Blizzard vs. eating an orange. Over time, these little your choices add up — both the good and the bad. Baby steps.
