Mama lost another pound-and-a-half last week. I’m down almost 10 pounds overall, 7.5 toward my 20. I feel better, my clothes fit better, I look better. So when we packed up to spend the weekend out of town, the fear crept in: how could I maintain my momentum amidst so much temptation?
It sounds an awful lot like the fear Jenn is experiencing right now, doesn’t it? Well — minus the smell of meat, anyway.
So I have tips. They come in two categories: things I did that worked and things I could’ve done.
Things I did:
- Knowing that the odds were not in my favor to get in both of my usual Sat./Sun workouts, I squeezed in a workout on Friday AND got up early Saturday so I could get that one in before we left.
- I brought healthy snacks — baby carrots, apples, fat-free yogurt — with me.
- We, too, were visiting family. Restaurant selections were not up to us, so we ended up with the kind of menus that don’t have a lot of healthy options. So I ate less. Boxed up half of my dinner Saturday and split my sandwich with my husband on Sunday. Yes, there were fries on the plate and I ate a few… like three. They tasted great, but it was even sweeter to leave that plate with all those fries behind.
- I’ve been very good since our return. Eating healthy… and I’m going to try to get in an extra workout this week.
Things I could’ve done:
- I could’ve tried harder to order healthy options: salads w/o the cheese and with dressing on the side… requesting grilled fish w/o the butter sauce, etc.
- I could’ve brought a big tray of veges to share with the whole family (we shared a 2-BR suite)… or tried out a great, healthy recipe — some kind of fruity dessert or egg-white frittata to offset the less-than-healthy fare.
- I could’ve stolen 15 minutes each day for a quick walk.
- I could’ve consumed A LOT more water. I brought my big water bottle with me, but didn’t refill it often enough.
All in all — I think I can call it a successful outing. Time (and that dreaded scale) will tell.
