I just had lunch at one of my favorite sandwich shops, eating the same Vermont turkey sandwich I always have there.  It’s loaded with healthy turkey, apples, lettuce, cheddar cheese and a whole lotta mayo.  I haven’t let this stop me from ordering it, however.  I’d switched almost all my lunches to salads or healthy, mayo- & cheese-free turkey sandwiches, I’d eliminated accompanying chips and cookies, I wasn’t about to mess with my favorite once-in-a-while sandwich, too.

Till today.  Mama lost another two pounds this week (this despite my lack of running), and though I like to treat myself to a couple fun lunches per week, I wondered if my weight-loss luck would run out.  I was about to cross over into diet territory where all bad foods are forbidden and it’s only a matter of time before I fall off the wagon and begin the binge that will put me in big-girl clothes in no time.  So I compromised.  I went to my sandwich shop and said those three magic words:  Hold The Mayo.

And it didn’t suck.  The sandwich had plenty of flavor without the estimated 180 calories of mayo.  Light-bulb moment, here, folks.  This is VERY good news for someone who REALLY wants to continue this lifestyle well beyond the 20-pounds-in-20-weeks era.  Turns out I CAN still go to my favorite places and eat favorite foods — I just have to be a little smarter about it.  I can honestly say, too:  I don’t miss the chips, don’t miss the cookie and I won’t miss the mayo either.  Even Burger King is advertising their “light” menu — 4-5 lunch options, all under 650 calories.  Every single one of them included the words Hold The Mayo.  Hmmmmm…

Mama lost two pounds, two pounds.  At 135, I’m down 13.5 pounds (15.5 total), 6.5 to go toward my 20-pound goal (and 10 weeks to do it).
