As a new mom, I’ve decided that the “sleep like a baby” cliche is way off… unless it means to wake up a few times a night because you’re cold, lost your binky or just want a quick cuddle with mom. However, I think I have a counter to Jen’s philosophy of eating like a skinny chick: EAT like a baby. Seriously.
Baby Blue has been eating solids for several months now. And if he continues these habits, he’s home free. For breakfast, he eats some applesauce and blueberry yogurt, maybe a little oatmeal or some cheerios. For lunch, he eats a mixture of chicken or turkey, some kind of vegetable and maybe a little pasta or rice. Dinner’s a lot like lunch. He samples food from our plates, too… things like little chunks of chicken, black beans and sweet potatoes. There are no french fries, there are no cookies. Not a single beer OR diet coke. He doesn’t even know they exist. Now that’s what I call a healthy diet.
And now that we’re transitioning to him eating what we eat… it’s something I need to do for myself. We’re not bad eaters, really, but we’re not always so balanced. And it won’t be long before he’ll want the candy or the cookies — especially if he watches Mommy eating it (and getting so damn happy as a result).
