OK. So I’d like to credit my weight-loss to my refurbished lunches… to the 10-story stair climbs I do regularly… to the grilled-chicken-and-vegetable dinners my husband prepares… to the elimination of MOST of my fattening treats (sorry Starbucks pumpkin loaf)… to the 3, maybe 4 workouts I squeeze in weekly… but let’s face it, the biggest asset in this weight-loss journey has been a little guy we call Blue.
And no, I didn’t lose the weight so he’d have a skinny mommy (though we all could use one of those). I’m just saying that I’m well aware that breastfeeding has played a significant role in my ability to drop nearly 25 pounds. Prior to beginning this 20-pounds-in-20-weeks effort, I noticed that I was able to maintain my weight, despite a rather crappy diet and sporadic exercise at best. I knew then that it was because of breastfeeding. So in fairness, I did have to make some adjustments to actually LOSE the weight… but breastfeeding has been a rather important wingman.
And it’ll soon be time to say goodbye to said wingman. I’m not going to begin weaning till after the holidays, though. Blue just turned 1, but truth be told, nursing is my secret weapon. It is the one thing I can ALWAYS rely on to chill out the little guy (who’s pretty chill, anyway, but he has his moments). And considering the fact that we’ll be traveling to visit family, I need to have my secret weapon for any in-flight emergencies, late night wailings, dinner-time distresses, teething tantrums… and related toddler behaviors that require desperate measures. But after the holidays, we’ll begin what I hope to be a slow process of weaning.
Let’s face it, the mere idea of it makes me sad for obvious reasons. It’ll be harder for me than him, I imagine. I know, I know… I can still cuddle and be close with him, but it’s just not the same.
And I am a little concerned that I’ll gain weight after weaning. That may sound shallow, but hey, we said we’d be honest here. I’m hopeful that I’ll just go back to maintaining my weight and won’t have to make major adjustments to my current diet/exercise plan to do so. That’s the plan, anyway.
Wish me luck.

Good luck to you and Baby Blue!
I hope you guys have an easy, uneventful flight, a lovely Christmas and that the eventual weaning goes smoothly.
Love from TX!
